When looking at vernacular dwellings around the world, thosefrom China are particularly rich in culture. Chinese vernaculardwellings, which have raised widespread concerns in variouscircles, are valuable legacies of ancient Chinese architecture. Theconservation of Chinese vernacular dwellings has been enhanced inpast years. However, with rapid economic development, improvedliving standards and urban buildings, the study and conservation ofvernacular dwellings should be further increased, so that nationalarchitecture can become further treasured and appreciated by morepeople. The richness of Chinese vernacular dwellings is closelyrelated to the countrys situation. Firstly, to tackle the housingissue, people at different times in Chinas long 5000-year historymade various attempts at improving their dwellings, and there isevidence of this rudimentary shelter. Secondly, China has a vastterritory,which covers high mountains, vast plains and grasslands,river networks, loess plateaus and dense forests, which not onlyprovides various local building materials, but also determines thefundamental selection criteria in different regions.
