安特生1924年在西北调查时，发掘了一系列半山、马厂期陶器，巴尔姆格伦作为安特生的助手，将安特生给予的半山、马厂期陶器资料进行整理研究，于1934年出版了《半山及马厂随葬陶器》一书。该书对安特生发掘的半山、马厂期陶器进行了详细介绍，不仅是了解史前时期洮河流域彩陶文化发展的重要资料，而且是研究史前彩陶艺术发展脉络的重要文献资料，具有重要的考古学价值和艺术价值。本书是对原书的影印出版。
