本书依据园艺专业职业岗位需求，以介绍果树实用生产技术为主线，以技能培养为中心，力求简洁、实用、易懂、操作性强。本书针对高职教育注重实践技能的特点，强调实践操作过程，以实践应用为目的。为突出职业教育工学结合的教学特色，结合江苏南方地区果树生产实践，本书主要以草莓、葡萄、桃、梨、无花果、苹果等果树为操作对象，根据上述果树生长发育规律及田间管理的相关技能来组织编排，确立了果树分类及品种识别、果树结果习性观察、果树育苗、果树整形修剪、果园田间管理等七大项目，重点描述了相关技能的操作过程及技术要求，在吸收了国内外的近几年果树生产新技术的同时，融入了编者以及其他果树生产技术人员的实践体会及技术成果，力求符合生产实际，并体现生产技术发展的趋势和方向。
