本书是课题《在高职基础英语的教学中融入专业英语的研究与实践》的研究成果，由课题主持人及课题组成员编写而成，课题组成员有数十年的教学经验。本教材主要是在高职基础英语中融入能源电力专业基础知识。
本书共设计7个单元，包括电力工程介绍、电力系统、 电厂设备、火电厂、水电厂、聚光太阳能发电和输配电系统等主题的内容。每单元围绕专业内容进行语言的听、说、读、写、译的内容设计和编排，融合了能源电力专业基础知识，培养学生专业英语的技能。
