地球科学与旅游相结合而成的一门新兴学科，它是伴随中国旅游业在70年代末的兴起，地学工作者介入为旅游服务工作，通过实践而总结的一门学科，重点是为旅游资源调查、评价、规划、开发、管理、保护及普及地学知识服务，从2000年起随着地质公园的兴起，旅游地学把为地质公园建设和管理服务也列入重要内容。
