本书分为三章，第一章为简介，扼要介绍了昆剧《十五贯》随着新中国的成立而重获新生的过程。第二章对昆剧《十五贯》的形成过程及人物原型进行了探讨。第三章介绍剧情，对剧中人物况钟与其他主要人物之间的戏剧冲突做了较详细的分析。书后附有剧本的英语译文。
